The Nike NRG division that includes their Sportswear brand, the social media department and their respective marketing and events departments, required a slightly more subversive space for their operation than the corporate head office in Johannesburg, South Africa. They staked their claim on a rooftop in a gentrifying area of downtown Johannesburg called Braamfontein.

The building was named after the first Nike sponsored athlete, Steve Prefontaine.

A new floor was added to on top of an existing building as a free-floating box enframing the view across the Nelson Mandela bridge and Johannesburg skyline. This housed the Nike Influencer lounge, a space for a select few that included top athletes and cultural influencers that represent the brand.

The rest of the building was refurbished into an office space for their marketing department.

The development of this project was integral to the development of the surrounding area.

The Nike Run Club of Johannesburg use this space as their weekly rendezvous point as well.
